I have fallen In love with these glass blocks. You can find them almost anywhere, for this project I bought them at Lowes they are 8 X 8 and run $4.97 each. (If you buy an entire case like I did you save a little bit)

First take your alcohol ink (you can find it at Ben Franklin Crafts, or online. Roberts or Michaels does not carry it) and dab it on with a square piece of felt of any color. There are several colors to choose from I used Espresso. Make sure not to use to much it dries really fast and once it does, what ever it looks like is what it will be. Don't try to fix it, trust me just don't. Once you have done all the block. Top, Sides, and back apply your vinyl. Like you would with any other project.

Here is an image you can save and use for your shilhuette from Quickutz if you have one. If you have never tried to import your own image go to here to learn how, it I thought it was rather easy and not the quickest at computer stuff at all. If you don't have a silhouette I can do the vinyl for you for $5 that includes your shipping. If you are using other size besides the 8X8 Block please specify that in your email. ashlanmartin@hotmail.com. You could do it with a cricket I assume, I have never used one so I'm not sure.

To make the hat cut your felt 8H x 20L. On your short height fold it up about 2-3 inches it doesn't have to be perfect. glue the hat closed so it holds the flap in place, only place glue to close to the top of the fold in the back so now you should have a tube with a fold at the bottom. Do not glue the top closed.

Next lay your hat flat make sure your seam is in the back center. cut about every 1-2 inches apart (like a tie fleece quilt) down about 3 inches making sure to cut top and bottom so you can knot them together. Once whole hat is cut, know front piece to the back piece until there are no more ties left.

Next embellish your hat however you can't use colors that would work best for your home.

**There are several other ways to do this but this is a newer version I like. I would love to see any other ideas of how to do it, if you make one.

I saw this cute idea here and wanted to make one, but I know my kids would pick at the paper so I went on a hunt. First I found Alcohol Inks at Ben Franklin (they only come in a 3 pack and are random colors, you can buy them online individually) well since I only wanted green and wasn't sure how will it would work I passed it up. I bought the stain glass paint from Roberts for 1.99 it was okay (see attempt #1) I went back to Ben Franklin and bought the Alcohol Inks (attempt #2). I don't know about you but #2 was the winner. I love the color and the texture of it. I feel the #1 looks like the already tinted glass block you buy at Lowes. I did everything the same but instead of the paper like I said, I sponged on the ink with a piece of felt, a little ink goes a long way!

(One thing that I would consider adding next time is a little almond extract)

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 egg, separated
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
2/3 cup colored sugars
30 milk chocolate M&Ms (I substituted chocolate chips)
30 wooden craft sticks

In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, & egg yolk until smooth. Combine flour & baking powder; beat into cream cheese mixture. Cover & refrigerate for 1 hour.

On a floured surface, roll out into a rectangle (or trim to a rectangle). You will want to roll them out thinner than sugar cookies.

With a sharp knife or pastry wheel, cut the dough into 3 inch squares. I used my ruler to score the dough in a straight line.

Place 3 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet or parchment paper on a cookie sheet.Beat egg white until frothy; brush over squares. Sprinkle with colored sugars. Cut through the dough from each corner of the square to within a 1/2 in of the center. Press a wooden stick near the center of the square.

Fold alternating points to the center to form a pinwheel; pinch gently at the center seal.

Bake at 350 degrees for 9-12 minutes or until set. Remove immediately to wire racks to cool.

Amish Friendship Bread Starter (part 2)

Ingredients
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread starter
3 eggs
1/2 cup cooking oil (I use canola oil)
1/2 cup applesauce
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups white flour
1 cup white sugar1
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Grease two bread pans with butter, or cooking spray. You can dust the pans with additional cinnamon and sugar, if you like, but I think the bread is sweet enough as it is.

In a bowl, combine the starter, eggs, oil, applesauce, milk, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly.In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Mix thoroughly.

Combine the starter mixture with the flour mixture and mix thoroughly, to avoid lumps.Pour half the batter into one prepared loaf pan, and half in the other. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Check by inserting a toothpick and checking to see if it comes out (mostly) clean.

Remove the pans from the oven and cool, in the pan, on cooling racks for ten minutes, or so, until the sides of the bread pull away evening from the pan. Remove from the pans and cool the rest of the way on the cooling racks.

Slice and enjoy!

I can't imagine the Amish doing this, but some recipes I've seen call for adding a large box of vanilla pudding with the other dry ingredients. It's not bad that way, but it gets a bit too sweet for me. Which, of course, means my kids love it all the more. I've even heard of people adding different flavors of pudding, chopped nuts, raisins, and other dried fruit. Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment!

Amish Friendship Bread Starter (part 1)

As with all sourdough breads, it begins with a “starter.” This starter takes ten days to make, so be patient, but diligent.
Ingredients
1 package active dry yeast (about two teaspoons)
1/4 cup warm water
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups white sugar
3 cups of milk

You'll only need one cup of flour, one cup of sugar, and one cup of milk on any given day, so there's no point in measuring them before hand.
Directions

On the first day, place the warm water in a small bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it stand for ten minutes and stir with a wooden or plastic (NOT METAL) spoon to dissolve.

In a 2 quart glass or plastic container (NOT METAL), combine 1 cup of the flour and 1 cup of the sugar. Mix thoroughly. Slowly stir in one cup of milk and the dissolved yeast mixture. Loosely cover and let stand until bubbly. Leave it loosely covered at room temperature.

One the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days, stir the starter with a wooden or plastic spoon.

On the 5th day stir in one cup of flour, one cup of sugar, and one cup of milk.

On the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th days, stir the starter with a wooden or plastic spoon

On the the 10th day, stir in the last cup of flour, cup of sugar, and cup of milk. You will have about 4 cups of starter. Remove one cup to make your bread with. Give one cup away to two friends, and store the remaining cup in the refrigerator, or start the ten day process again, starting on day 2.

You can free the starter in one cup measures for later use, if you like. Let the frozen starter thaw for at least 3 or 4 hours to bring it up to room temperature before using.

Pack two kinds of homemade flavored popcorn in one bucket tin. Follow the recipes to make Macadamia Butter-Crunch Popcorn and Chocolate-Almond Popcorn. Purchase bucket tins at a home store. Then cut card-stock dividers to fit the diameter and height of the tins. Baby Hanger Tutorial (we found the original idea in this book)What you'll need:
*Wooden baby hanger (link to Web site!)

*Patterned paper in 12x12 size

*Scissors

*Pencil

*Coordinating acrylic paint

*2 foam brushes

*Matte Mod Podge or other decoupage

*Brayer or bone folder (optional)

*Sanding block or sandpaper

*Coordinating ribbon

Okay, let's get started!

1. Start by tracing each side of the body of the hanger on the FRONT of the patterned paper (the photo shows it traced on the back, but this will make your paper backwards, and it may not fit correctly). Cut them out.

2. Next, lightly sand the top and underside of the hanger. Then paint the top, bottom, and most of the sides of the hanger with your acrylic paint.

3. With a foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on one side of the hanger. Lay the patterned paper on top and position it to match the hanger. Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with a brayer, a bone folder, or the side of your hand.
4. Trim any excess paper with scissors or an Exacto knife.
5. With your sanding block, sand the edges of the paper in a downward-angled motion, away from the paper. Sand until the paper "becomes one" with the hanger. It's okay if some of the paper's pattern and the paint get sanded off. It lends to the "shabby chic" look.

6. Now brush a moderate layer of Mod Podge over the entire hanger. Watch your brush strokes--they will show after it dries. Be sure to spread out any thick or globby areas. This layer seals the paper and gives the hanger a finished look. Allow to air dry 15-20 minutes.

7. Tie a bow on the top of the hanger with coordinating ribbon and trim ends.
